Two new lines will be built within the year

At the same time, rail transport projects will be started this year. According to the plan, the phase II of Line 4 and the northern part of the Line 5 extension will be started. And the construction of phase I of Line 4, the southern part of phase II of Line 5, phase II of the branch of Line 4, phase I of Line 9, phase II of Line 10, and the loop line will all be continued.

Phase I of Line 4, the southern part of phase I of Line 5, phase I of Line 9, the loop line, the Jiandingpo to Bishan Section of the suburban railway, and phase II of the branch of Line 6 in Chongqing are expected to be finished from 2018 to 2020. In 2020, the operating mileage of Chongqing Rail Transit is expected to reach 450 km.

The Rail Transit construction in Chongqing, a mountain city, has experienced many severe challenges. The builders conducted a survey of various types of Rail Transits around the world for nearly 10 years before they decided to adopt a straddle-type monorail on the Line 2 of the earliest construction.

The advantage of a straddle-type monorail, which is different from the more common dual-track Rail Transit, lies in that it is more suitable for Chongqing, a mountain city. It distinguishes itself in strong climbing ability. The maximum gradient of the normal Rail Transit is about 30‰, and that of the straddle-type one is 100‰. In addition, the turning radius of straddle-type monorail is 100 to 150 meters, which is less than normal Rail Transit by 300 meters. The straddle-type monorail is also advantageous in terms of cost and land conservation, and the noise it produces is also much less. It even forms a landscape in Chongqing and is very attractive to tourists from all over the country.
