Yunnan police seize over 1,900 ivory items
KUNMING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Forest police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have seized more than 1,900 ivory items in an operation against the illegal trade of products made from rare and endangered wild animals.
During the operation launched on Feb. 27, forest police authorities uncovered 36 ivory trade cases, arrested 45 suspects and confiscated 1,927 ivory items by the end of May, the Yunnan forest police bureau said Thursday.
The forest police also launched a crackdown on criminal cases related to forest and wild animals in April and May.
In the two months, they uncovered 597 cases and seized 1,581 wild animals.
E-commerce trade and express delivery service were blamed for around 90 percent of major illegal wild-animal trade cases.
