ANKARA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's Gobeklitepe, one of the oldest temples in the world, has been registered on UNESCO World Heritage list, Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The decision was announced at the 42nd UNESCO World Heritage List Committee Meeting held in Bahrain's capital Manama.

Located in Turkey's southeastern Sanliurfa province, Gobeklitepe is regarded as "the world's oldest known megalithic structure in Upper Mesopotamia" and dates back to 11,000 years ago, according to the statement.

The site has been registered on UNESCO's Tentative List since 2011.

With the inclusion of Gobeklitepe, the number of cultural heritage sites from Turkey added to the UNESCO World Heritage List has increased to 18.
