Observing water level, rainfall, monitoring flow, sediment concentration, reporting water conditions, predicting floods... On the occasion of the strongest flood peak coming to Chongqing’s main urban areas this year, the Yangtze River hydrologists, as vanguards and safeguards, have been working day and night at the forefront of flood control for many days.

Since its establishment, the Yangtze River Committee's Hydrological Upstream Bureau has carried out hydrological forecasting 365 days a year. In the flood season, the bureau set up a big night shift and a small night shift system, in which the big night shift was on duty 24 hours. Every day, hydrological information from more than 100 stations in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River is summarized, analyzed, and consulted, and provided to local flood control departments.
