To ensure the peaceful crossing of the peak flood, the staff on duty at the Cuntan Hydrological Station of the Yangtze River Committee's Hydrological Upstream Bureau lived in a small cabin during this time. When they were sleepy, they took a nap on the wooden bed. When received phone calls from family, they couldn’t talk much, only to report that "everything is good” in a hasty manner.

As the water level continued to rise, floating debris and sediment flowing up the upper reaches of the Yangtze River increased. Workers took samples from the water to monitor sediment concentration. Flow monitoring had a role that cannot be ignored for flood control and flood prediction, and the change of sediment concentration is also a key factor affecting flow monitoring.
