CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- It’s learned from Chongqing Wulong Airport Construction Headquarter recently that Wulong Airport has entered the comprehensive construction stage after the completion of test phase construction. Work is fully rolled out at the four sections belong to different bidders of the flight zone field project. Currently it is undergoing ground treatment and earthwork backfilling operations.

It takes about 40 minutes driving from Xiannvshan Town to the construction site of Wulong Airport. The car travels on a temporary construction road which is a little bumpy. The scene of the construction site is going ahead at full steam. It is said that Wulong Airport is a 4C regional airport, which is planned to meet the passenger throughput of 600,000 passengers and cargo throughput of 1,500 tons in 2025. The construction content mainly includes 2800 meters of new runway, 6000 square meters of terminal building, 6 Class-C apron parking spaces, 4 Class-A apron parking spaces, and other auxiliary facilities.

According to the executive deputy commander of Wulong Airport Construction Headquarter, construction between January and March each year basically halted due to bad weather. From April to June, the rainy and foggy weather continues, and the construction of earthwork is difficult. Therefore, in order to ensure the orderly advancement of the project, the headquarters inverted the construction plan and further increase the investment of machinery and personnel as long as the climatic conditions permit. “At the peak, there are 400 machines and thousands of people entering the field every day. It is expected that 80% of the total amount of earthwork will be completed within this year, and the terminal building and terminal area will be started in the second half of the year.”

The reporter learned that when the Wulong Airport opens, it will further provide more convenient transportation methods for Wulong's tourism. Take Chengdu to Wulong as an example. At present, it takes 5 hours to take a high-speed train to the main city of Chongqing and then transfer to Wulong. It takes only 40 minutes to fly from Chengdu to Wulong. At the same time, Wulong Airport can also fly routes with popular tourist areas such as Wushan and Zhangjiajie, thus forming a golden circle for air travel.
