Free exhibition of Xu Beihong’s works held in Chongqing

Xu Beihong’s classical fine works created during the War of Resistance Against Japan held in Chongqing for the first time
The number of the Xu Beihong’s painting work exhibition during the War of Resistance Against Japan is 75, which are from Xu Beihong Memorial Hall and Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum. These fine works were created during the War of Resistance Against Japan, including traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, watercolor, sketch, calligraphy and other types. In addition, there are 4 national class-A heritages.
It’s the first time thar Xu Beihong’s classical works created during the War of Resistance Against Japan exhibited in Chongqing, including Chongqing Drawing Water, Meet in Tokyo, Galloping Horse, Portrait of Rabindranath Tagore, Forest of Himalayas and other masterpieces.
It is reported that the story of Xu Beihong and Chongqing started from Xu Beihong came to Chongqing as National Central University moved here in November, 1937. The decade from 1937 to 1946 became an important part of Xu Beihong’s art career. During this period, he took pains to raise money and became a flag of art field during the War of Resistance Against Japan.
In 1937, Xu Beihong moved to Chongqing and created famous traditional Chinese painting Chongqing Drawing Water.
Art historians commonly think that the decade in Chongqing was the peak of art creation of Xu Beihong, whose works with reputation of art history were created in Chongqing. In these paintings, Chongqing Drawing Water, reflecting perseverance of Chongqing people during the War of Resistance Against Japan, is a masterpiece of realistic painting of Xu Beihong.
