Chongqing girl holds Chinese Food Festival for 4 consecutive sessions in Britain

She eats all kinds of food with her father in childhood 

Tang Shi told the reporter that her epicurean nature is from her father. "My father is a Chongqing gourmet, and I ate all kinds of food with him since I was a little girl." Tang Shi said that she is familiar to the 8 Chinese regional cuisines although she was born and grown in Chongqing, and she really likes Chinese food. After graduating from university, she came to the UK for a job and met designer Tang Zimu who works in British.

"We found that there are many food festivals from South Korea, Japan and India every summer in London, but there is no one from China. Most Chinese restaurant owners in England work hard and earn money without publicity.” Because of the wish of promoting Chinese food culture, they decided to work together and host the Chinese food festival in London.

They held the First Chinese Food Festival in London in 2015. Tang Zimu is a designer who pays attention to details and Tang Shi is a straighter girl, and the food festival is creative due to their totally different characters. With Chongqing noodles, Shanghai pan-fried bun stuffed with pork, Cantonese cream custard bun, Shaanxi marinated meat in baked bun and so on, the festival next to Tower of London attracts thousands of tourists to taste the authentic Chinese food within 3 days.

At the beginning of preparing the festival, Tang Shi and Tang Zimu were young, had no experiences working in catering and had no restaurant of their own, so people didn’t believe them. "One of us is from Chongqing, and the other is from Hunan. We are both stubborn, so we must make it if one says you can’t." Tang Shi said.

Original intention: to make Chinese food develop everywhere

In order to let visitors of the food festival enjoy authentic Chinese food, they tried to invite domestic restaurants to take part in the exhibition from the first year. In the first year, Tang Shi introduced many food merchants from Chongqing and showed Chongqing noodles and Hot and Sour Powder in the front of British people.

Nowadays, the Chinese food festival organised by them has reached a certain scale.

When the reporter asked about the revenue of the food festival, Tang Shi smiled and said, "In fact, we were in loss at the first three years." But they don’t regret their choice.

Tang Shi and Tang Zimu put the Chinese food festival on the right road with their passion after former tries.

Target: to build a cultural exchange platform with food

In addition to the taste for customers, Tang Shi and Tang Zimu have made some new tries about the food market. They invite customers to make dumplings and cook spicy chicken, which enhances their interaction. They also introduce creative Chinese dishes such as fish head with apple and pepper sauce and spicy ramen with pig's intestines designed by British chefs to attract foreigners who like to taste new food. New Chinese food that is nutritious, popular and adapted to demands in England market can be explored through it.

Tang Shi said that the food festival is a bridge between Chinese and Britain, and a food exchange platform is a culture exchange platform.
