Indonesia's Banten to host rhino-themed int'l triathlon, cycling events on weekend
JAKARTA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's province of Banten was scheduled to host international sports events of Rhino Cross Triathlon (Rhino X-tri) and Rhino Mountain Bike Cross Country Marathon (MTB XCM) from September 29 to 30, to be participated by at least 200 athletes from seven countries, the organizer said on Monday.
The two sports events were part of sessions featured in the province's cultural and tourism festival of Pesona Tanjung Lesung, aimed at observing the World's Rhino Day commemorated worldwide this month.
Rhino X-Tri 2018 event director Tense Manalu said the triathlon would contend three different levels of competitions, comprised of Eagle, Rhino and Bull classes.
"The Eagle Class consists of 1,500 meters swimming, 30 kilometers cycling and 15 kilometers running, while the Rhino Class consists of 1,000 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling and 10 kilometers running. The Bull Class challenges the athletes to go through 500 meters swimming, 10 kilometers cycling and five kilometers running," Tense said.
Meanwhile the Rhino MTB XCM would be contended in men elite, women open and men master categories.
Athletes from Indonesia, the United States, the Netherlands, Japan, France, New Zealand and Spain have been confirmed to take part in the two sports events that provide total rewards of 250 million rupiah (16,800 US Dollars), she added.
