Tanghe Ancient Town
Tanghe Ancient Town, located in Jiangjin District, was prosperous due to its easy access to waterway transportation. Numerous merchants and horse carriages were seen in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Here, a rich culture is cultivated and as a result of which it becomes a popular place to shoot films.
Because it is not developed enough, the original customs and styles of the people have been well preserved, without much of a contamination of consumerism. Strolling around the variegated lanes is such a great pleasure in the refreshing air.
Transportation: Chongqing (Caiyuanba/Chenjiaping/Longtousi Long Distance Bus Station) → Jiangjin Bus Station → Tanghe Ancient Town
Zouma Ancient Town
Located in Jiulongpo District, Zouma Ancient Town had long been a place that merchants who travel between Chongqing and Chengdu must pass. Though small in size, the town is worth a visit.
The lively ancient town is re-juvenilized by the tinkling of the cobblers, the cry of the peddlers, Liuhuzi jiaozi, Sanmenkou soup pot, various traditional architecture, and craftmanship shops.
Transportation: take bus to Baishiyi 5th Hospital at Yangjiaping, Nanping, Shiqiaopu, Shapingba or Chaotianmen, transfer Bus 286 and take off at Zouma
Pianyan Ancient Town
Located by Heishui River in Jindaoxia, Beibei, Pianyan Ancient Town has a 30-meter long rock slanted northwest at Jielongchang that’s why called “Pianyan”.
The town is surrounded by rivers and mountains, wild trees grows and provides shelters for houses in the town. Many tea houses are available, and people enjoy themselves by drinking tea, chatting, playing mahjong, etc.
Transportation: take a bus from Chongqing to Beibei and transfer to Pianyan
Baisha Ancient Town
Baisha Ancient Town is located in Jiangjin, too. It has hanging houses by the river, grey-tile lanes that stretch deep, slates-paved streets that lit by shimmering sunlight, constructions that are a mixture of East and Wast from Ming and Qing dynasties and a culture that features simplicity and unsophistication.
Not many tourists are seen on the streets. To most of us, maybe there isn’t so much to see. However, the beauty of the town can only be discovered once you put your impetuous temperament aside and watch closely the footprints of history.
Transportation: take direct bus to Baisha Town at Caiyuanba Long Distance Bus Station or Chenjiaping Long Distance Bus Station
Laitan Ancient Town
Laitan is situated in Hechuan District and is one of the Top Ten Chinese Ancient Towns. With its long history, a sense of quaintness can be felt everywhere. Different types of residential houses from Ming or Qing Dynasty are built by the grey-tile lanes, and barbicans that built in Qing Dynasty are well preserved.
Exterior woodcut reliefs of ancient opera houses are still exquisite and delicate, on which one can rest at the interim of a tour. A sip of the local green tea brings a tremendous reassurance and satisfaction for anyone who visit the ancient town.
Transportation: take bus to Hechuan at Caiyuanba Long Distance Bus Station (or take Bus 508 to Hechuan at Chongqing Railway Station), take bus to Longshi at Hechuan Bus Station, take off at Laitan, and then take a motorcycle or other convenient vehicles to the town.
