Impression Sunrise, Rouen Cathedral, Water Lilies, Haystacks… The works by French impressionist Claude Monet are brought to the design of cakes by Geng. She not only brings the classic Monet series at the cake shop she owns, libraries at several colleges in Chongqing are also drawn on the surface of the cake.

She as well as some of the partners in the start-up likes the game “League of Legends”, so they took a bold move in creating a League of Legends Cake. Some customers who enjoys hilarious gifs even made a request for bespoke internet meme cakes. The idea to bring pictures, memes and figures to cakes originates from a small hobby of Geng’s – eat. “Because I love eating, naturally the idea come up to my mind”, she said jovially.

Creative works and brave entrepreneurship

The idea to start a company emerged early this year. And Geng has a fantasy for delicious food. The first thing that occurred to her was that she can make cakes, combining what she learns in university and her instinct love for gourmet. Some 20 cakes had been sold since the shop started. Some people are attracted by the way these handmade and fully-customizable are made, while others dismiss them due to their higher price (cakes have different price-tags according to their different sizes).

And to that, Geng has her own explanation, “many people underestimates the difficulty in drawing on a cake. Unlike pigments, many trails and errors are needed because of problems on how much cream will be used, whether they should be piled up, what mixture creates the desired color, etc., and for some made-to-order cakes, the painting process alone could take more than 2 hours.” However, Geng didn’t put too much emphasis on whether her start-up may succeed, what is important is that one should take bold actions when one is young.

Geng also said that they will make a Chongqing Memories Cake later, drawing iconic Chongqing architectures of Jiefangbei, Hongyadong, Assembly Hall, Ciqikou, Yangtze River Bridge, etc. on cakes. (Translated by Yang Lifu, Fathom Language Limited)
