CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- What happened when photographers met the century-old Shancheng Lane? In the eyes of the artists, how can it preserve its traditional look, at the same time show its metropolitan prosperity? To answer that question, Chinese contemporary photographers gathered at the Shancheng Lane of Chongqing for an event to capture details of the old lane.

On the first day of the event, the photographers were in awe just as they arrived at the Shancheng Lane. Surprised by what were seen, Han Lei, a photographer, said, “The Shancheng Lane is indeed awesome. Right now many old streets are identically styled, but Shancheng Lane instills us a sense of peculiarity and superiority.” To the photographer Yang Yankang, the Shancheng Lane is a mountain old lanel where people’s daily life takes place. In practice, he is used to capture indoor scenes which are hidden behind the dilapidated doors, such as the swaying curtains, the variegated portraits, as well as the dark green moss. “I saw a man who cooked wearing an apron and a woman who kept her snack shops in good shape. It is the daily life that touched me the most.” It is understood that photos from the event will be publicly displayed this year.

Last November saw the official commencement of the project of Shancheng Lane Traditional-styled Scenic Spot. The project intends not only to protect and repair cultural preservation buildings and traditional buildings in the region, but also to create a home-sharing paradigm and a creative culture. What will the Shancheng Lane be "transformed" into in the future? This time, the photographers provided their own suggestions. (Translated by Yang Lifu, Fathom Language Limited)
