Sports meeting in a juvenile rehab center

2018-11-02 12:01:14

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “1, 2, 3… 140, 141…” Xiao Cheng, a juvenile delinquent in his anonym, played rope skipping so swiftly and rhythmically that he won the championship. Rapturous applauses are heard now and then in the Chongqing Juvenile Compulsory Isolation Drug Rehabilitation Center. Among the events are rope skipping, plank and so on. The participants are fast, and the cheering for them is loud. Who would have thought that not long ago they are addicts who would lost their mind once they are denied the drugs?

Recently, a fierce fun sports meeting for drug addicts is held at the Chongqing Juvenile Compulsory Isolation Drug Rehabilitation Center near Airport Expressway.

With neat uniform, bright slogan and unique-styled formation for each team, sport events in a rehab center are no different from the ones we participated in. The only difference is that, to prevent incidents, there is a “sentry” every several meters across the playground.

At the event of the tug-of-war, people cheer vehemently for the contestants. Can you imagine that the participants of the tug-of-war used to be frail and weak physically?

A ting of the gong marks the result of championship. The athletes compete vigorously in the event, while the surrounding audience wave their arms encouragingly, as if they are the one who won the match.

Why do they hold a sports meeting in a rehab center? The Head of the Chongqing Juvenile Compulsory Isolation Drug Rehabilitation Center explained that they intended to encourage the addicts to exercise more, in hope that they can recover physically and psychologically soon, so that the addicts can go back to the society once they part from the narcotics. “The life of the addicts is more brilliant with the sports events and daily exercise. In such events, they can express themselves, improve their teamwork and corporation ability, form good behavioral habits, and help themselves rectify their mistakes, and finally become citizens who abide by the law.”

There are a variety of projects at the sports meeting, and the masters of plank also have a stage to “show” themselves. Hold on! Hold on! And stick to it! Blood vessels of their hands were bulging, and the sweat on their forehead was dripping on the mat, but they still refused to give up. Looking at their unyielding strength is like watching them fight the "devil of drug".

In the competition, the participants tried their best and did all they can. It is a thorough display of what a positive spirit should be like. The many events and flexible forms of the competition are an examination on their daily training as well as a consolidation of their willpower and rehab progress.
