CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the “Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up -- Chongqing Fine Arts Exhibition” has been held at Chongqing Art Museum. Over 200 art works displayed herein witness the great change of Chongqing since carrying out the reform and opening-up policy.

The work includes the traditional Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints and sculptures. “This group of sculptures erecting on the head of Yangtze River Bridge is remembered by Chongqing people.” said by the citizen Zhao Ying after seeing the copies of the sculptures Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter in the exhibition.

Sculptures Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter were set on the Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge on September 26, 1984. The group of sculptures lasted 5 years from the design to completion.

For the nearly naked body sculptures, it sparks controversy. According to some expects, sculptures Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter are built in the beginning of reforming, which is the pioneer of the urban public sculpture in Chongqing, the product of social thought liberation in that time and the achievement of Chongqing art’s innovation.

Many winning works of Chongqing artists in the National Fine Arts Exhibition are on display, like the print Year of 30 created by Peng Wei, the professor of Southwest University and the sculpture To Pursue Dream done by Jiao Xing, the vice president of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

The oil painting Riverside-2016.7.17.19:36 drawn by Xie Guangyue, the vice president of Southwest University and the oil painting Our Food Basket drawn by Zhao Xiaodong, the teacher of Chongqing University are the current works. Riverside-2016.7.17.19:36 has been picked for “Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up, National Fine Arts Exhibition” hosted by the China Artists Association and showed on the National Art Museum of China. It is the only work selected successfully for the National Fine Arts Exhibition. “It describes the night scene of Caiyuanba district to express my love for Chongqing.” Xie told that he would like to show the metropolitan charming by more paintings as he has been studied and lived in Chongqing for 20 years.

The works of Zhao Xiaodong reflects the life of common people. Taken the Our Food Basket as an example, it actively reveals the scenes of picking, logistics and shopping.

This exhibition will be open for free until November 18. (Translated by Jiang Yuling, Fathom Language Limited)
