Installations of lights at Eling: how do you interpret?

2018-11-14 10:09:33

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In an era when the technology advances at an unprecedented pace and life keeps changing, light is used not only for urban infrastructures, it is also used as a method to discover the beauty in life. When art meets technology, specifically, when lights illuminate Chongqing, new scenery is born between the urban construction and nature.

The exhibition from a project, the 2018 Light Art Creative Designing Talents Training, was held at Eling Testbed 2 in the evening of November 10. The project, sponsored by China National Arts Fund, has a total of 17 lights installation art in display, a collaboration of a group of 30 artists, designers and engineers from various industries. The project, reminiscent of past events, brought a unique visual experience.

Rabbit Ear on Top of Building. The inflatable light installation based on rabbit ears is at the top of the tallest building at Testbed 2. The 5-meter tall device adds a pair of “ears” to the building, dismissing the dignified feel of the concrete complex while at the same time acting interactively with visitors in an intrigue manner, thanks to its perfect position.

Inflow. Light flows in the curved tube incessantly, as if people from everywhere gather here, in an attempt to input more bandwidth as well as heat to the center.

Satellite. Also known as Hexagon and Star of David, Satellite is comprised of two triangles. Based on such premise and through laser beams as well as a certain control mechanism, the work can be interpreted and shaped in a novel way. The structure of the graphics is also versatile.

Explosion. Similar to everything in the cosmos, humans are the interactive product of particles and gravitation. And the same gravitation applies to love – its irresistible material basis is the same as the gravitational force created following the Big Bang. The work explicitly showcased the relationship between gravitation of love and human beings, a creature comprised of particles.

Wall of Illumination. Wall of Illumination is created with light bands in wasted tires and laser beams. The work is featured by pure and ambient lights.

The Stage. All the world's a stage, and everyone plays a role on the stage that belongs to themselves only. The installation is featured by a personal stage with condensed light of one meter in diameter at a corner. Visitors are to stand at the center of the spotlight and turn on a color optical rotation device, and a showcase is about to begin.

Rainbow. Rainbow as an icon brings us joy. It reminds children of lollipops and adults of romantic wishes. The use of mechanical devices to drive the color ring to rotate and then form a stereoscopic visual effect of different colors, as if the installation is a rainbow dancing in the air, which brings real joy to life.

Borrowing Light. It is paved with wind-driven sequins, and the bottom light is washed and indirectly embossed. The water ripple on the left is rendered horizontally, and the sound on the right is immediately separated. The two articles in the upper and lower parts are in contrast, and gradually disappear into the invisible sound.

Viscosity. The use of soft cloth resembling pantyhose constitutes a sticky feel between the two buildings, as if they were separated just now. A sense of underlying obscurity and image of something apparently severed but actually connected can be felt.

Citizens may attend the exhibition until November 25 for free. (Translated by Yang Lifu, Fathom Language Limited)
