Automated warehouse provides efficient delivery for Double Eleven shopping spree

2018-11-19 12:09:50

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- As an annual buyer for Double Eleven shopping spree, have you ever noticed that the purchases this year arrived earlier than before? With gross merchandise volume topping RMB 200 billion and a total of 1.352 billion parcels processed for Tmall, the e-commerce platform of Alibaba spun off from Taobao, and many parcels ordered at midnight were delivered to customers in early morning next day. While welcomed by customers, the quick delivery is a result of competition between many delivery companies in their technology and load capacity.

The Third Parcel Processing Center of Chongqing was put into use on October 26 prior to the commencement of the Double Eleven shopping spree. During the event, the average daily amount of land parcels in the processing center was about 700,000 pieces, and the peak value was about 850,000 pieces. However, with the help of an intelligent equipment — a high-speed double-layer parcel sorter, sorting efficiency was greatly increased with manual intervention reduced.

The information of each package will be integrated into the QR code on the mail sheet, and an electronic map and a sorting system will automatically determine which one of the vehicles the parcel is to be placed. Then, the package is automatically sorted by passing a red laser area in which the QR code will be scanned, and the package will be dropped via a corresponding sorting chute.

It takes about 4 hours to feed a parcel into the processing center and have it loaded onto a vehicle. After the parcel arrives at the production building, it is mainly processed by a high-speed double-layer parcel sorter independently developed by Zhongyou Technology Information Co., Ltd. The sorter processes 30,000 – 40,000 packages/hour, and it can process 600,000 – 800,000 packages a day (20 hours).

After the package is delivered, it will automatically fall into the corresponding sorting chute according to the calculation result of the system. Most of the parcels will fall into 42 directly connected grids on the outside and be transported into compartments through conveyor belts. The whole process takes about 2 minutes. The parcels that falls into the chute will be placed on box carts by workers and sent to corresponding port for loading. The average delivery time to the loading is about 10 minutes.
