Beautiful natural scenery, spicy Bayu food and various urban landscapes are important city cards of Chongqing Tourism. The collision between natural landscapes and wisdom of Chongqing people forms the unique mountain traffic modes, including stairs into the air, roads on the cliff and supper long elevators. These dazzling traffic modes for strangers not only meet citizens’ travel demand, but also explain the love and understanding for mountains of Chongqing people, showing the unique charm of Chongqing.

Zhang Haipeng, the director of geography culture team of Chongqing Geographic Information Center, said that 23 selected transport landmarks can best show the features of mountains and landscapes of Chongqing. “The 23 landmarks are the most admired and favored by strangers.” Zhang Haipeng comes from Shandong Province while has lived in Chongqing for 16 years. He made field investigations at the 23 landmarks because of the love for life and nature. “It’s hard to say which one is the most characteristic.” According to Zhang Haipeng and his team, the 23 landmarks are the transport buildings which can highlight the features and landscapes of Chongqing most.

He also introduces the transportation in Chongqing to his friends, such as Liziba Light Rail Station through buildings, sky-bridge connecting F13 of a building to the ground… All the scenes are common for Chongqing people. But for strangers, they are unimaginable miracles, which can’t be seen in other cities.

Collision between landscapes and wisdom

Which transport landmark is the most popular like Sujiaba Interchange, Liziba Light Rail Station, Colorful S-turns Highway and so on? And which one is your favorite? 

The 23 transport landmarks are scattered in 15 districts and counties, including Yuzhong District, Nan’an District, Shapingba District, Banan District, Yubei District, Fuling and Changshou. They have their own characteristics. For examples, Huangguan Escalator, the well-known transportation means in Chongqing, as Asia's second-longest escalator; Yangtze River Cableway known as "the first sky corridor of Yangtze River" and the "airbus of mountain city "; Colorful S-turns Highway built along the mountain in Meixin Wine Town of Fuling District; Pingchuan (Pingmaxiang-Chuanhegai) Highway in Xiushan County known as the “most winding highway in Chongqing”, with a total of 45 turns climbing along Chuanhegai; road on the cliff of Lanying Canyon in Wuxi County with unlimited scenery in the distance and cliffs nearby.
