CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “Use mung beans to make seaweeds, soybeans to make sand, rice to make clouds...” Recently, in order to welcome the New Year, an activity about making patterns with cereals was held at Renhe Sub-district Community, Youth House, Yuzhong District. Forty children showed their creativity by making patterns with red beans, mung beans, corn chips and other crops.

In the beginning, themed on folklore inheritance, volunteers told children the origin and manufacturing skills of cereals patterns. "Cereals patterns, also known as patterns made by sticking cereals, is originated from the folk custom of patterns with cereals. According to the original color of beans, making full use of all features of beans, like the shells, shape, beanstalk, beanpole and natural color, patterns can be made by sticking them after the antiseptic treatment.” According to the volunteers, only a few tools are needed in making cereals patterns, like scissor, cut-off knife and pastel. People should design the first draft on paper, choose the beans of suitable size and color and stick them to the hardboard. In this way, the works will be cleaner and tidier.

During the activity, under the explanation of volunteers, residents and children learned making patterns carefully. Those who grasped the manufacturing skills helped others. Under the joint effort, these cute cereals patterns were completed. (Translated by Mao Qiao, Fathom Language Limited)
