CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- With flower market, delicious food, old lanes and others, Luzumiao located in Yuzhong District has impressed the citizens as a feature of old Chongqing. When its flower market falls out of favor increasingly, many people worried about the future of Luzumiao.

According to Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, the protection planning draft for Yuzhong Luzumiao traditional style area is being published on the official website, in an attempt to create a traditional style area by the protection and good utilization in the future and to become an important carrier of Chongqing traditional culture via revivification of old Chongqing’s flavor.

Century-old block

Yuzhong Luzumiao is situated near Minshenglu Primary School, where the block formed nearly 108 years ago with many old buildings built from 1920s to 1970s, so it belongs to an old street.

“World Book Store”, set in the 1930s and 1940s, is the first building at Luzumiao Sub-district, which is one of the largest book companies and cultural venues in Chongqing at that time. It also is an ancient lane with full of city culture and life atmosphere. The social drama and incense of Luzumiao were popular in the past time, reflecting the life and customs of Chongqing people.

With long history, numerous lanes and ancient buildings, it gradually formed a flower market, known as the Luzumiao Flower Market. Citizens may come here to buy a branch of flowers in a festival; especially on Valentine's Day, lots of young people come to order red roses for their loved ones.

Although it only covers the length of more than 100 meters, there are continuous stream of people, authentic Chongqing delicacies, and aromatic flower shops, full of life atmosphere. As you may know, delicious lotus-root soup, Tofu pudding, and Chongqing noodles can serve you here. Chongqing generations can remember their memories at Luzumiao where is a microcosm of Chongqing life and a good place to feel old Chongqing.

Carrier of Chongqing traditional culture

Nowadays, it is no longer adaptive for development and should be upgraded because of its shabby houses, disordered stalls and bumpy roads. In the future, Luzumiao will become a traditional style area and one of the important historical and cultural blocks in Chongqing. Together with Shibati, Ciqikou, Jingangbei, Yudong Historic and Cultural Zone, Huguang Guild Hall, Dongshuimen Historic and Cultural Zone and Traditional Style Area of Great Hall of the People, it will form the carrier of Chongqing traditional culture.
