Graduates from SFAI create works at Longmenhao Old Street

On January 12, 2019, a tourist studied the statue of a carrier at Longmenhao Old Street, Nan’an District.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Academy of Public Art allowed graduates to create at Longmenhao Old Street for the first time. Students used various ways to show the public art works to add cultural connotation to this old street.

Old Chongqing in the late Qing Dynasty, busy ferries in the river and loaded wooden boats by the riverside... At the entrance of area opened firstly, a public art work with great impact “Port Opening - Time Changes” is here. This work was created in the form of “zippers” on the wall. A scene of Chongqing being a trading port was painted on the wall with special propylene for outdoor usage. Before the painting, several statues about carrying, shouldering and lifting goods display the busy scene after Chongqing opened the port.

“Chongqing opened the port in 1891, and Longmenhao Wharf is the first Chinese inland trading port opened to the outside world.” introduced by Wang Song, a teacher from Academy of Public Art of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. To show its profound cultural memory and special cultural taste, the Management Committee of Nanbin Road signed a cooperation agreement with the Academy of Public Art in 2018 on cultivating applied talents; that is, the graduates of the school would create their graduation works at Longmenhao.
