AMMAN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday condemned a terrorist attack in Syria's city of Manbij that killed 10 people including four U.S. soldiers.

In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi denounced the attack as a "savage terrorist attack," while offering condolences to the families of those killed.

"Another barbaric crime that further proves urgency of rallying all efforts to ensure enduring defeat of terrorists everywhere," Safadi added.

On Wednesday, the militant group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that targeted a U.S. patrol in Syria's Kurdish-controlled city of Manbij in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo Province.

Four U.S. soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the attack, a U.S. official was quoted as saying.

They are the first U.S. military casualties since U.S. President Donald Trump announced in December his plan to pull out U.S. troops from Syria. The United States has deployed 2,000 troops in Syria, including Manbij, to fight the IS militants.

A suicide bomber detonated his vest filled with explosives near a restaurant in Manbij near a patrol of the U.S.-led coalition in the city, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Manbij is controlled by the Kurdish-led Manbij Military Council and U.S. forces patrol the city after tension grew between the Turkey-backed rebels around Manbij and the Kurdish-led militia inside the city.
