CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing seems like a huge photostudio, attracting many directors. Among these directors, Zhang Yibai is the most familiar one to Chongqing people. “Lost, Indulgence”, “Curiosity Kills the Cat” and “I Belonged to You”, as his “Chongqing Trilogy” films, make more people know and love Chongqing. On January 18, as the final exhibition of 2018 Chongqing International Image Festival, “Photography Exhibition Chongqing Trilogy Zhang Yibai” will be held at TESTBED 2. Regarding films as the media, the 400 photography works related to “Chongqing Trilogy” will display Chongqing’s development over the past 10 years and the haunted and continual nostalgia of a Chongqing director Zhang Yibai.

400 ones out of thousands of photos

For Zhang Yibai, Chongqing is born with a “film face”. To present an all-around Chongqing, he provided tens of thousands of photos for the Curatorial Team. All photos come from his digital camera, film camera, LOMO camera and phone. From “Curiosity Kills the Cat” in 2006 to “I Belonged to You” in 2016, memories deep in heart during almost 10 years were finally sorted out and summarized in this exhibition. The team spent more than two months just arranging the photos in the first round.

There are 7 exhibition halls of “Photography Exhibition Chongqing Trilogy Zhang Yibai” to display 400 photography works, including stage photos, aerial shots, dialogues and NGs of movies. Lots of off-camera shots will be shown for the first time, for example, Zhang Yibai discussing with actors, eating noodles with peas and meat sauce at Shibati and thinking along Yangtze River. All detailed scenes for making a film will be showed. In addition, the host arrange a “director room” at the exhibition specially to screen three movies mentioned above at regular times.

“Zhang Yibai should know that he is a Chongqing local person and a director when making ‘Chongqing Trilogy’. This exhibition is a balance and integration of two identities for him.” Yan Jiaxu, the Executive Curator introduced that, this exhibition will help audience to further interpret Chongqing, especially to let Chongqing people find out hidden feelings in familiar scenes.

The 2018 Chongqing International Image Festival is the largest event about images held in Chongqing in recent years. Launched on June 5, 2018, 16 grand events and exhibitions have been held. As the final of the image festival, “Photography Exhibition Chongqing Trilogy Zhang Yibai” will be opened to the public for free until February 24, 2019.
