First 5G driverless bus debuts in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Without driver, cockpit and even steering wheel, the bus can accurately bypass obstacles and automatically adjust the speed based on the high reliability and low latency of 5G network as well as the assistance of new technologies such as vehicle-borne lidar omni-directional detection and artificial intelligence algorithm of vehicle-borne computer. According to Chongqing Mobile, the first 5G driverless bus in Chongqing has carried out the internal trial operation, which means that Chongqing driverless bus has officially begun to put into use.

This driverless bus can hold up to 12 people, with a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour. It is driven by all-electric battery. It can realize the functions of pedestrian avoidance, vehicle detection, acceleration & deceleration, emergency parking, obstacle bypassing, diversion, automatic stopping at the station and turning lights turning on and off with unmanned operation, because it possesses the advanced technologies like 5G network of high reliability and low latency as well as artificial intelligence identification. Through collecting and analyzing the road condition, and making hierarchical decision via using 5G network, it can react to other vehicles, pedestrians, obstacles or unexpected situations in real time and then control vehicles to avoid collision. What’s more, it can achieve the goals of video surveillance, travelling adjustment, remote control, peripheral information collecting and others via 5G network.

During the driving, the vehicle will make responses according to the road condition. When approaching the corner, the vehicle will automatically rotate and adjust its direction; and when to stop at a place, it will turn on the turning light ahead of time to change lanes. At the same time, it will detect the surrounding obstacles and moving objects, and automatically operate the action of automatic braking, emergency braking, evasion or others according to the real-time condition, in order to ensure driving safety.

After the successful Internal test, the technology will be applied to the unmanned buses of Lijia 5G Smart City, and even in the logistics transportation to achieve more efficient unmanned logistics. (Translated by Jiang Yuling, Fathom Language Limited)
