“Age of Pandas” exhibition opens

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Pandas are chubby and cute now, while 8 million years ago, ailurarctos lufengensis looked like fox, mainly feeding on meat. Do you know how they evolved?

The “Age of Pandas - the Past and Present of Giant Panda” exhibition was held in Chongqing Natural History Museum, which will last until April 28, 2019. You can explore secrets of panda in the exhibition.

Plastinated panda specimen “Xin Ni'er”

World's first plastinated panda specimen

Plastinated panda specimen Xin Ni'er comes into view when you entering the exhibition hall, which died from duodenal obstruction in 2016. China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda and Mysterious Life Museum jointly made the world’s first plastinated panda specimen elaborately. The plastinated specimen is nontoxic and tasteless and also shows its inner structure. Visitors can view its fur and skin, and observe its skeleton and viscera.

Scene of the exhibition

This exhibition, regards “Big events of panda”, “Reveal giant panda”, “Evolution of Giant Panda” and “Giant panda protection” as the guide, collects panda fossils in different evolution phases and specimens of live panda and fossil models of ancient human and recovers panda genealogy to tell the story about them along with human over the past 8 million years.
