CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In the past, Chongqing people had to make a detour or climb stairs to go for and from between river-spanning bridge in main urban districts and riverside roads, which would be a waste of time and energy. But the situation will be changed. Vertical elevators will be installed on four river-spanning bridges in main urban districts. And the one on Dongshuimen Bridge, which connects Yuzhong District and Nan’an District, is expected to be started this year.

Installation on Dongshuimen Bridge starts first

According to the person in charge of Chongqing City Construction Investment (Group) Co. Ltd., the project includes three river-spanning bridges: Dongshuimen Bridge, Shibanpo Bridge and Caiyuanba Bridge, while Chaotianmen Bridge is under discussion.

Dongshuimen Bridge, with Huguang Guild Hall and Longmenhao Old Street on the south and north sides, is of a good flow of people and most mature condition for the installation of vertical elevators, so it is taken as a pilot. Land condition, coordination with exist buildings and the bridge are considered into site selection, together with passenger flow analyzed and predicted. When the project is completed, the walking time from Huguang Guild Hall to Luohan Temple and from Nanbin Road to Shangxinjie Station will be largely shortened to 5 minutes from 18 and 15 minutes respectively. 

Vertical elevators will solve the vertical height difference between bridges and the road below. Let’s take Dongshuimen Bridge for example, when the installation is completed, the walking time from Huguang Guild Hall to Luohan Temple and from Nanbin Road to Shangxinjie Station will be largely shortened. Facilities will be constructed in the space under the bridge to build a place that can not only provide traffic but also leisure and entertainment for people. Then it can improve the supporting infrastructure and the quality of life, and create a new name card of a tourism city.
