CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Irregular oil painting texture, intersecting pattern changes and dizzying colors… The audience accustomed to realistic works may not adapt to such abstract works of art, but the original painter said, “Hope such sense of inadaptation can let Chongqing audience feel the collision of art.” Recently, “Li Hua’s Intellectual Art in the Context of the Naif African Folk Art” exhibition was opened in Chongqing Art Museum, consisting of two parts: 57 oil paintings of Li Hua and 54 groups of precious African folk statues.

The exhibition links cultures of Asia, Europe and Africa of long history from the perspectives of art history and aesthetics and inspires people’s thinking about art by the collision between the avant-garde and experimental contemporary oil painting and ancient African folk art. According to some audience, the exhibition shows both works of Chinese artist and African collections of Austrian collector, just like a dialogue among Asia, Europe and Africa.

“I’m born in 1980, one of the first batch of the generation after 1980s,” answered Li Hua wittily when facing the media’s question about age. Li Hua, who won LVMH Young Artist Prize 2015 and German top DAAD scholarship, is a Chongqing native and also postgraduate student of Vienna Academy under guidance of German painter Daniel Richter. Li Hua recalled that she had started her overseas study tour since she graduated from Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. During the course of study in Germany, France and Austria, she concentrated on her art development and abstract expressionism became the basic language of her painting. Li Hua said, “The audience accustomed to realistic works may not adapt to such abstract works of art, but I hope such sense of inadaptation can bring more collisions of art.

In the speech of Pang Maokun, the President of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and Director of Chongqing Art Museum, Chongqing is a city of water and mountains and also an open city. Its unique topography and landforms make it somewhat similar to another important city of art in Europe – Vienna, Austria. This cooperation will surely promote the art exchange between China and Austria and also further build a new pattern for the international cultural and artistic exchange of Chongqing Art Museum.

The exhibition will last till March, open to the public for free. (Translated by Huang Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
