Haitangxi Station becomes an attraction

At 7:45 in the evening, the reporter arrived at the station and took escalator to the 2nd floor’s platform, seeing many people were waiting at the end of the platform facing Yuzhong District. When the reporter got close to them, he saw people were holding their equipment for shooting, like cameras and phones.

When the radio in the station broadcast “The train is arriving”, all people were ready to shoot.

Someone shouted “here comes the train”, then people began to shoot the train.

After shooting, people checked photos’ quality. Some had to shoot again, while others would upload photos to the Internet. Finally, the reporter knew that these people are shutterbugs. Among them, there were elderly men about 50 or 60 years old, and also college students just learning in universities for half a year.

At scene, two students caught the attention of the reporter for they had been there for 40 minutes. They shot for many times with their professional equipment. They are post-95s and also freshmen studying photography at School of Art at CTBU. One called Wu Jiawei is from Taiyuan, Shanxi, and the other called Cui Wenhui is from Urumchi.

Wu said that several days ago, he watched a video about the station, so he invited his friend to shoot here. He shows special preference to Chongqing for it is a dreamy city with many anime elements. “For example, Hongyadong looks like a scene of Spirited Away,” he said. And he follows a person who specializes in shooting night views of Chongqing on the Internet and quite likes his shooting style. The picture of Haitangxi Station looks like the scene in anime.

Rainy Scene of Haitangxi used to be one of Twelve Scenes of Chongqing and Sichuan

Compared with young people, native-born people of Nan’an District have more nostalgia for Haitangxi. Mr. Cao was attracted by the crowd once he got off the train. Mr. Cao, 71-year-old, lived by the station.

Cao said “Haitangxi was a well-known attraction in Chongqing, and Rainy Scene of Haitangxi is used to be No.1 of Twelve Scenes of Old Chongqing and Sichuan.” He also introduced the source of Rainy Scene of Haitangxi; that is, in the past, cherry-apple trees were planted along Haitang Stream. When spring rain falls, this area is gorgeous.

But nowadays, cherry-apple trees are gone and idyllic scenes are changed into high buildings. So Rainy Scene of Haitangxi is a memory of old people live in Nan’an District.

Though things have changed as time flies, Mr. Cao is still very happy. He said that he is pleased to see Haitangxi becomes an attraction again, and he enjoys the photos people shot, in which he saw a different Haitangxi with a unique charm. (Translated by Mao Qiao, Fathom Language Limited)
