CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Five sets of RMB banknotes have been issued over the past 70 years since the 1st set of RMB banknotes officially issued on December 1, 1948. Now, “Name Card of China - Exhibition for the 70th Anniversary of Renminbi” itinerant exhibition comes to Chongqing, firstly disclosing the stories behind the issuance of RMB. Largest denomination – RMB 50,000

Collection value: it was just circulated for 15 months, so there is a small quantity.

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the largest denomination of banknotes is RMB 50,000 of the 1st set banknotes printed in 1950 and issued in 1953, including 2 kinds of printing, with patterns of Xinhua Gate and a harvester printed on the obverse respectively.

These 2 kinds banknotes were circulated for 15 months and 16 months only, respectively.

Smallest denomination – one-fen coin (RMB 0.01)

Collection value: the average price is 10,000 yuan / piece. The banknotes are hard to see due to the small quantity.

The 2nd set of RMB is China’s first implementation of the currency system with standard currency and fractional currency and the issuance of metal coins, including one-fen, two-fen and five-fen metal coins, ending China’s modern and contemporary history without unified circulating coins.

These one-fen, two-fen and five-fens metal coins are most favored by collectors, for example, the “Five Golden Flowers” consisted of three five-cent coins issued between 1979 and 1981, two-cent coin issued in 1980 and one-cent coin issued in 1981. RMB 10 is the largest denomination of the 2nd set of RMB, usually called as “Large Black RMB 10”, which is the largest banknote in size issued by now.

The 4th set of RMB banknotes was issued by People’s Bank of China from April 27, 1987. It’s the first time to use a large portrait as the main watermark. Four great men's portrait, including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi and Zhu De, as well as the head portraits of workers, farmers and intellectuals were suggested to designed on RMB 100 banknotes and RMB 50 banknotes respectively, which was the first time for relief of great man’s portrait became the themes of banknotes.
