Chinese women’s team wins the 2019 World Chess Team Championship

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chinese women’s team won the championship ahead of schedule by defeating American women’s team in 2019 World Chess Team Championship held in Kazakhstan. It’s worth mentioning that 3 of 5 members in Chinese women’s team are from Chongqing, who helped Chinese women’s team win the title in World Chess Team Championship for the fourth time with their stable performance after 2007, 2009 and 2011.

The World Chess Team Championship is the world’s highest level chess team competition hosted by World Chess Federation (FIDE). In 2018 World Chess Team Championship, Chinese men’s team won 2 straight titles and Chinese women's team won the second place.

In 2019, two world chess queens, Hou Yifan and Ju Wenjun, were absent from Chinese women’s team. So Tan Zhongyi, Lei Tingjie, Huang Qian, Shen Yang and Ding Yixin participated in the championship. Three Chongqing females, Tan Zhongyi, Lei Tingjie and Huang Qian are experienced veterans in World Chess Team Championship, for they participated in this championship for 6 times, 3 times and 4 times respectively.

In the 8th round competition that day, three Chongqing females and Ding Yixin were sent to compete with young American women’s team.

The world chess queen Tan Zhongyi played easily with opponent Abrahamyan. She built her advantages after the start and won the title easily after 30 rounds. Huang Qian playing the black chess took a draw with her opponent. Lei Tingjie finished the game after her 41st round with her opponent. So, thanks to their great performance, Chinese women’s team won the title ahead of schedule with eight consecutive wins, which was also the 4th time for Chinese women's team to win the World Chess Team Championship.
