CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Zhang Zongfu, neither an art student nor a full-time painter, is a 52-year-old painting worker, but he can say some jargons like "monochrome" and "perspective" when he introduces his own painted graffiti. During the space time after work, he has learned the drawing for several decades by himself and now gets some achievements.

Middle-aged painting worker pursues the beauty of art

The reporter saw some graffiti photos with the essay "cultural & creative style from a painting worker” in WeChat Moment and knew that these paintings are creaetd by a common middle-aged painting worker, not a professional painter.

With the curiousness about this middle-aged painting worker, the reporter came to Meixin Red Wine Square to look for him.

"Are you taking about the painting worker Mr. Zhang?" said by a cleaning lady, “You go and see the one who’s squatting to draw; that’s him”. Following her guidance, the reporter found him soon at the entrance of square.

He is Zhang Zongfu, 52, born in Chongqing, with an education background of senior high school. He did as a worker in a textile factory and then as a part-time worker and an entrepreneur, and now is a painting worker for Chongqing Meixin Group.

Lots of practice at home before painting graffiti

Although he paints the wall or something else every day, he never gives up his childhood hobby of drawing, and he has systematically learned a lot of painting knowledge after decades of self-study and research as well as the explanation of teacher who he consulted from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

“Operational ability is one of the most important elements for drawing, and it's totally different between thinking in your mind and drawing by your hands." Zhang said. So, when he works at Meixin Yangrenjie, he practices it on the ground or in some special areas whenever he is free. “Before I go to officially paint graffiti, I obviously do a plenty of practices at home. If it fails, I can make up for it, because I’m a painting worker.” After he’s familiar with the process, he actively takes part in painting graffiti required by the company.

He doesn’t care about how simple the painting tools he used are, like taking old cardboard as palette and paper cup as paint bucket, and he pursues the painting itself. To show his painting skills, he found a space and said “Look! I’ll paint an anchor of a big boat here”. After that, he began to draw with his brush.

Ten minutes later, a black-grey anchor is graphically presented here. From that, we can see that he can finish a work within a short time as well as with a high similarity and romantic feelings.

There are hundreds of painted graffiti, abstract and realistic, various and creative, at Meixin Red Wine Square.
