Antique objects in the Zhongxinglu Flea Market

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In March every year, second-hand markets where the stories of city, family and society are recorded can receive an endless stream of customers. For “dumpster divers”, the Zhongxinglu Flea Market is a wonderful place for buying second-hand goods.

Sun Jianmin operates a 16-year-old shop with a variety of old objects at the Zhongxinglu Flea Market, selling goods produced between the 1960s to the 1980s. Although these objects are outdated for the younger people, as far as he’s concerned, they are precious collections, because each of them can convey the special story of that age.

The shop is open from 8:30 to 16:30 every day, only with a holiday (on Chinese New Year's Eve) in a year. The owner Sun said that his obsession with collecting things like stamps is influenced by his elder generation. So, he decides to run a second-hand shop, and sometimes can chat with people who loved collecting about the stories of goods.

“Handheld Cellphone (大哥大)” is not only a tool for calling, but also a symbol of status and wealth in the 1980s and 1990s. So, if you carried it and walk in the street, many people would stare at you for at least a moment. Tang Weijie, a customer who came to buy a “Handheld Cellphone”, said that when he was a child, the next-door uncle bought one and he looked through green glasses. At that time, he made a decision to study well for a good development and hoped that he could buy one soon. “As the time goes by, it’s hardly used now, and I buy it just to meet the childhood dream.”

"Have you ever known the ‘Instamatic Camera (傻瓜相机)’?” asked by Sun while tidying it up. This kind of camera needs to put film on its back shell and after taking photo, the film has to be developed in a photo studio. In a word, it records many memories of people born in the 1970s and 1980s.
