China offers better services for veterans

BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities have taken concrete measures to help veterans with resettlement and employment, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs said Tuesday.

Since the ministry was founded in March 2018, it has helped more than 80,000 ex-officers in the military find civilian jobs and over 400,000 retired soldiers resettle, the ministry said in a statement on its website.

Last year, local veteran affairs authorities held over 300 recruitment fairs, which created over 600,000 jobs for veterans, it said.

A total of 123 centrally-administered state-owned enterprises have offered more than 15,000 jobs for veterans, it added.

A battery of laws and regulations have been formulated, including those on resettlement, pension and preferential treatment for veterans, to ensure better protection of their legitimate rights and interests, according to the ministry.

The pension and subsidies for some ex-servicemen have been raised by 10 percent since August 2018, it said.

The ministry said it had signed an agreement with 10 banks on introducing preferential financial services for military personnel and veterans.
