Strong personal style showing in Mucha's works

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Alphonse Maria Mucha, a Czech artist, is regarded as one of brands in Prague with Franz Kafka and the animated film "The Mole". The special exhibition "Mucha: Pioneer of European Art Nouveau" has been held at the temporary Exhibition Hall A on the first floor of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, covering more than 200 works designed and created by Mucha, such as colored lithographs, oil paintings, posters, illustrations in the Lord's Prayer, and design manuscripts.

You may seldom hear this Czech artist, but his creation of "Mucha Style" has gone throughout the world, and it was once one of the main sources of modern Japanese cartoon style. Even the author of the popular Japanese cartoon "Sailor Moon" is his fan. So, we can see the Mucha style in comic composition, costume and action of characters from Sailor Moon. What’s more, the design of the old Shanghai calendar is influenced by him.

The poster “LA PLUME” is one of the precious and famous works in this China itinerant exhibition, showing a blonde girl that you can only see her profile, wearing Byzantine headwear and jewelry, is surrounded by leaf decorations under the background of Mucha's iconic ring patterns. It was originally made for the calendar created by a printing house promoting the Mucha style, but finally its unsigned version was purchased by the magazine publisher for publicity. Shortly after, the printing houses sold lots of unsigned posters to dozens of companies to make propaganda. So now, there are many poster versions with different letters.
