To appreciate live relics, the White Crane Ridge Epigraph Exhibition in Fuling

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the ongoing “Underwater Tablet Museum - the White Crane Ridge Epigraph Exhibition” held in Fuling Art Gallery which is located in Binjiang Road, Jiangdong, Fuling District has attracted many visitors.

The White Crane Ridge Epigraph, which locates in the river way of Yangtze River in Northern Fuling Area in Chongqing, is a large natural stone beam with about 1600 meters long and 16 meters wide. In its middle section, there is a pair of line carps engraved on the Epigraph of Tang Dynasty. A fish there out of water is the symbol of a bumper harvest year, thus it is viewed as a spectacle by people and attracts generations to come and go. Many visitors write their poems down and leave precious inscription relics for the world, hence it is known as "the White Crane Ridge Epigraph” and becomes an important element of local culture. On the stone surface of more than 5,000 square meters, there are 163 pieces of calligraphy with about 12,000 characters inscribed, 14 carved Stone Fish Tails, 1 Crane Sculpture, and 2 Guanyin Sculptures in existence.

The inscriptions are made by more than 500 people, mostly in the Song Dynasty, followed by the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and modern times.

After the construction of the Three Gorges Reservoir is completed, the value of the Epigraph will become more and more evident. The exhibition aims to inform the public of the history and value of the White Crane Ridge Epigraph and persuade people to take an active participation in its protection, so that this precious cultural relic can be preserved in the world for a long time.
