The data showed that during the first quarter of 2019, self-service meals, together with Japan and South Korea cuisine becomes the fastest-growing cuisine in Chongqing catering consumption market, among which the order quantity of self-service meal reaches a year-on-year growth of 29%.

Star self-service meal and exotic cuisine are the winners as expected who are ranked at the top of the list respectively. In addition, from the perspective of the consuming group, the rapid growth of consumption of people who born before the 1970s is the strongest power to promote the explosion of star self-service meal consumption. According to the data, in Chongqing, the order quantity in the first quarter of 2019 of people who born before the 1970s reaches a year-on-year growth of nearly 79%, and the increase of their consumption accounting for nearly 4%. The post-90s generation is the largest group of self-service meal consumption, accounting for nearly 42%.

What is curious is that females in Chongqing have stronger desire for self-service meal than males and the proportion of women and men and is 1.2:1.

According to the List, over the past one year, people in Chongqing may spend 18 minutes or so on average to queue up for a single meal. In some restaurants, customers have to queue up for nearly 4 hours for a meal even.

Eating outside becomes more popular among consumers, so they become more concerned about “how to have a good meal”. Then technology like placing an order via phones is quickly introduced into restaurants in Chongqing to improve dining experience.
