Diligence written by hand

2019-05-05 14:31:09

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Have you ever observed the hands of a laborer? Some are full of calluses and chaps; some are rough and tan, or slender and clean. Behind each hand, there are their sweat and tears, glory and dreams. Different hands are all struggling for living, they are at their best in labor time. This time, we record their hands with cameras to express the greatest respect to laborers.

The hands has been immersed in the water for years, with many wounds and some parts of the blister peeling, and even knife cuts. Where once there were blisters, eventually there were calluses.

The owner: Pu Congjun, a fish worker has worked for two years. Even Pu Congjun himself cannot tell the wound is stabbed by fish or knife. There is a glove covered with fish blood on one of his hand, and an apron full of fish scales hung on him. A chopping knife on the one hand, while the other hand is expertly killing fish, removing gills and scraping scales. After a whole day, Pu Congjun smells like fish.

The hands, covered with old calluses, are unable to straighten their fingers for injury.

The owner: Qu Jiancheng, a “Bang Bang” (a porter) has worked for 10 years. A stick and two ropes are his means of livelihood. He has to steep hills with sweat every day. You can tell his bitter and weariness from the conversation of “Bang Bang” and “I am coming”. According to Qu, it is a hard work, but it doesn’t matter for him since now everything is fine.

The hands, work from threading the needle to sewing the clothes, with thick calluses on their fingertips, especially on the thumb.

The owner: Xiao Jianzhong, a seamer has worked for 39 years. From being an apprentice in the 1980s to running his own business, the tiny stall has become his source of making a living. For 39 years, his hands have been repeatedly threading the needle, sewing clothes and placing clothes every day. The marks of past life can be seen everywhere in the fingertips and palms.

The hands are covered with dry wrinkles and calluses for carrying things for a long time.

The owner: Chen Guofu, a deliveryman has worked for 2 years. Although the hands are not big, they prop up the whole family of Chen Guofu. A sick grandmother, a little child... all give power to Chen Guofu. He just want his family to be happy and healthy even if he has to work hard every day.

The hands are filled with smell of medicine, with a touch of Chinese medicine as its unique identification symbol.

The owner: Yang Xiaodong, a pharmacist has worked for 6 years. In the pharmacy, it is hard for ordinary people to remember the name and location of more than 100 kinds of medicinal materials, but it’s just a basic skill for Yang Xiaodong. He is meticulous in filling prescriptions and weighing. He has never made a mistake in the past 6 years.

The hands were still covered with some clay, and small cuts stabbed by branches and leaves. According to the owner, fingers are often sore and cramped for pinching them for too long.

The owner: Wang Fen (assumed name), a gardener has worked for no more than a month. Unlike other sanitation workers, Wang's daily tool is not a big broom, but a more "refined" long clip. She uses the clip to pick up all kinds of small sundries hidden in the vegetation bed. It is a big challenge to eyesight and the strength of hand. Life lies in diligence, and your diligence will be well fed. These wounds and wrinkles on their hands are the most beautiful scenery. Happy May Day! (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
