CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- With 6-month preparation and planning, the “Visiting Home Exhibition of UN Depository Collections”, co-hosted by Chongqing Library and United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library, was opened at the headquarter of the UN in New York on April 25.

This exhibition will last until May 9th. In the form of physical literature and pictures, this exhibition mainly displays some of the early UN literature collected by Chongqing Library as the UN depository library, including resolutions and reports made by the UN and its main institutions, like conference documents of the United Nations Conference on International Organization held in San Francisco in 1945, conference documents of the first meetings of the Security Council in London in 1946 and other precious publications.

Thanos Giannakopoulos, the chief librarian of United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library greeted the delegation from Chongqing, China, and introduced the mission of the UN Library since its foundation, as well as the digital innovation made in this new network era.

It's understood that Chongqing Library was granted the UN literature depository qualification in 1947. As one of the 20 UN depository libraries in China, it will have broader cooperation with the UN Library in the future.

The history origin of this exhibition is quite profound. Over 70 years ago, the National Roosevelt Library (the former Chongqing Library) was founded in 1947 to commemorate the great contributions made by former US President Roosevelt to the World War against Fascist. In December of that year, this library was granted the UN literature depository qualification and became one of the earliest libraries with such qualification in China.

With more than 70 years’ development, Chongqing Library kept nearly 260,000 documents and 23,000 publications of the UN, including precious literature of the early UN exhibited this time. (Translated by Mao Qiao, Fathom Language Limited)
