CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- What do you think of watching a 3D movie on rotating fan blades without going to cinemas or wearing 3D glasses? The 2019 Chongqing Science and Technology Week was opened at Chongqing Garden Expo Park. A smart holographic 3D screen displayed by the CQUST Science Discovery Center at the exhibition stand of Chongqing University of Science and Technology attracted many people.

This equipment consists of an LED screen and two fans with four rotating blades on each. When the blades rotate, 3D images are formed, which seems like watching a 3D movie without wearing 3D glasses.

Staggered LED bars are installed on fan blades. When blades rotate, a visual illusion of objects rotating in the air can be created through displaying images by controlling the time and working sequence of LED lights on the rotating bar, and in accordance with the time lag of our eyes on luminous objects. Blades rotate too fast to be detected by people’s naked eyes. People can see the floating image in the air without wearing 3D glasses, which seems like wearing 3D glasses to watch a 3D movie in a cinema.

According to workers, though its visual effect is similar to wearing 3D glasses, it still has differences between real holographic 3D screens. It just applies the principle of people’s persistence of vision to present a holographic 3D image in the air vividly. Without frame and fixed screens, these dynamic images together with dynamic music can provide an immersive experience for audience.
