Chongqing is listed in China’s Top 10 romantic travel destinations

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Driven by activities of festivals like “520 Expressing Love Day” (520 sounds like “I love you” in Chinese) and Valentine’s Day, the romance economy has developed rapidly and the tourism has boomed in recent years. Based on the air ticket booking big data in the past year, Ctrip released the Report on Travelling Big Data during Romantic Festivals of 2018-2019 (hereinafter referred to as “Report”). According to the Report, “520” ranks the third in the ranking for travelling popularity of romantic festivals, only after the Valentine’s Day and Chinese Valentine’s Day. The post-1995 generation gradually becomes the main force of travelling. Besides, Chongqing has been listed in China’s top 10 romantic travel destinations.

Increasingly popular 520 travel, Chongqing lovers like travelling

At present, the “romance economy” festivals include the Valentine’s Day (February 14), White Valentine’s Day (March 14), “520 Expressing Love Day” (May 20), Chinese Valentine’s Day (lunar July 7), Singles’ Day (November 11) and Christmas.

For romantic festivals, different from “traditional” gifts like flowers and jewelry, “travel” has become a fashion gift to one’s lover.

According to the Report, the air ticket booking data from the last “520” show that the Valentine’s Day, Chinese Valentine’s Day, “520 Expressing Love Day” and Christmas were the top 4 festivals for lovers’ travelling, among which the ranking of “520” rose to the third place from the fourth place last year.

Which cities have the most travelers enjoy travelling during romantic holidays? According to the Report, the top 10 departure cities were Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi’an and Chongqing.

The Report shows that from the perspective of age structure, the post-1990 and post-1995 generations account for 36%, among which the post-1995 generation accounts for 16%, becoming the main force of travelers during romantic holidays; the post-1980 generation, accounting for 30% of the total travelers. The two groups account for over half of the travelers. Besides, the post-1960 and post-1970 generations account for 6% and 15% respectively.

Destinations full of romance are more popular.

According to the Report, in the past year, the top 10 romantic travel destinations in China were Lijiang, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guilin, Sanya, Dali, Lhasa, Kunming, Chongqing and Xiamen.

Meanwhile, more and more people love to travel abroad to experience another kind of romance.

According to the Report, the top10 overseas romantic travel destinations were Maldives, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, France, Thailand, Japan, Mauritius, Greece and Italy.
