CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing is the city built along mountains and surrounded by two rivers. Most of buildings here are constructed along mountains for its special topography. When speaking of “building” in Chongqing, the stilted building is a must-talk one. The following primitive stilted buildings are charming.

Zhongshan Ancient Town

It is built along a stream and a valley. Roads here are narrow, and eaves on both road sides can almost cover the entire road. Roads are paved with flagstones, showing a strong antique charm.

It is full of people’s living atmosphere. Living along the river, you can hear the sound of passing water. Birds chirps in the morning. You can breathe the fresh air here when you open the window.

Chiyou Jiulicheng

It is the place which carries the dream of Miao people for thousands of years. People here regard Chiyou (a mythological warrior engaged in fighting with the Yellow Emperor) as the progenitor, and people of Jiulicheng union as ancestors. The sacrificial ceremony of Chiyou will be held every year. It is located in Pengshui, Chongqing.

Stilted buildings here are built by mountains, with over 300 rooms in total. The height difference is up to 81m, which making it the largest stilted building group in the world.

Zhongyi Tujia Stilted Building

Shizhu is the holy land for stilted buildings and also one of the birthplaces of Tujia carpenters. Tujia stilted buildings of hundreds of years, together with farmland, form a perfect landscape painting in Zhongyi.

There are old flagstone roads and clean springs. You will lose your heart in the authentic stilted buildings and Tujia life.

Zhuoshui Ancient Town

The stilted buildings here are built by Apeng River. The embankment about 4m or 5m high is made of ashlar. The stone embankment does not incline at all though suffering river flapping of more than two hundred years. The stilted building seems soaring in the air seen from the embankment.

Apeng River is magnificent and mountains are countless when you stand on the stilted building to look far away. At that time, your will feel relaxed and happy.

Baisha Ancient Town

There are quiet and long flagstone lanes in this unique ancient town. Walking up the stairs, you’ll enjoy many charms of it.

Stilted buildings are built along the river here. You’ll enjoy yourself in an old teahouse, just ordering a pot of tea and listening to stories told by the storyteller.
