URUMQI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has allocated over 2 billion yuan (307 million U.S. dollars) of subsidies this year to renovate dilapidated houses in its rural areas, according to the regional finance department.
More than 1.9 billion yuan, accounting for 92 percent of the government-subsidized funds, has been allocated to 32 impoverished counties, the regional finance department said Sunday.
The subsidies will be used to renovate dilapidated houses of low-income households, residents living in rural areas with extreme poverty and poverty-stricken families with handicapped people.
The finance department said the use of the funds, including the subsidized residents, the prices of building materials and the subsidies allocation, should be made public.
