ACCRA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Narh-Bita College on Tuesday introduced the Chinese language as a credit course in a bid to offer its students more job opportunities.

According to an agreement signed by the college and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, the students can earn two credits after they finish the Chinese study as an optional language course.

The medical college based in Tema city, which was established in 2008 to address the shortage of health workers, now it offers students many opportunities for working abroad.

"I believe learning Chinese will bring them more opportunities as bilateral cooperation between China and Ghana strengthens," said Chu Beijuan, chief of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana.

Established in 2013, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana has trained more than 7,000 Ghanaian students with Chinese courses at all levels, and it has become a major school for locals to learn Chinese.

"A formal credit course is different from a training course, and it puts more pressure on us to improve our teaching, though all the Chinese teachers are very experienced," said Chu, adding that they have the confidence that the course would attract more students.

"We are looking forward to carrying out more cooperation with different institutions in Ghana to offer them a window into the Chinese culture," said Chu.
