Tasty dishes on mountains in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Let’s have some special dishes in Chongqing.

Gele Mountain, with the title of “First Peak in West Chongqing, An Emerald in Chongqing”, is one “lung lobe” of Chongqing. The most famous dish is Laziji (peppery chicken), which is well-cooked in every restaurant here. In addition to Laziji, the following restaurants are recommended for you to taste other dishes here.

Hongbai Hundouhua (tofu pudding with meat)

Students of Sichuan International Studies University are familiar with the restaurant which enjoys a good reputation among students for its affordable price and delicious taste.

Tender and fresh tofu pudding, tasty dipping sauce and well-balanced meat and vegetables are key factors to judge whether the dish is tasty or not. It’s obviously that this restaurant has done a good job in the above factors, which makes it favored by people for a long time.

Sheyuan Restaurant

It’s the last restaurant built in the People’s Commune period on Gele Mountain, where you can enjoy the old times.

The environment is tidy, with square tables and wooden benches inside. Tofu pudding is placed in front of the door, bowls and chopsticks are sterilized in boiling water.

Cold Houttuynia cordata and cold chicken taste good. The steamed pork with rice flour is a must-eat dish because the rice flour make meat more delicious.

Nanshan Mountain, located at the south bank of the Yangtze River, is called as another “lung lobe” of Chongqing. It’s a good place for climbing and enjoying night view. In addition to chicken and hot pot, there are various tasty dishes on the mountain.

Taoshi Yi’e Jiuchi (cook a goose with various cooking methods)

It’s a secret farm house on Nanshan Mountain, only known by a small group of people. 

It's an interesting restaurant. The dishes here are mainly braised chicken, steamed chicken with chili sauce, duck cooked with ginger, chicken soup and duck soup. The specialty is only the local chicken, duck, eel and loach. While the native goose is only mentioned in the end incidentally.

Actually, cooking a goose with various cooking methods is absolutely the specialty. Goose head and neck will be pot-stewed to highlight the flavor of goose.

The skin of a goose will be fried, tasting like crispy pork slice. Goose cooked with hot peppers, similar to chicken with hot peppers, is great to be eaten with rice.

Jiujiu Niurouguan (beef)

It’s the most popular beef restaurant with delicious dishes and poor decoration on Nanshan Mountain, which has been showed on A Bite of China.

It’s a restaurant with special style, with all dishes cooked with beef.

The soup cooked with white beans and beef is the specialty, which tastes delicious after being cooked for a long time. Other dishes, like shredded beef with pickled peppers and poached spicy slices of beef, are also tasty. 

Tieshanping Forest Park is one of the major natural parks in Chongqing suburbs, with its main peak altitude of 584m. There is a forest covering an area of 18,000 mu, regarded as a natural oxygen bar of Chongqing suburbs.

Luying Jidi BBQ (BBQ at camp bases)

Similar to other mountains, Tieshanping is a mountain with many restaurants cooking chicken. No one knows which is the most authentic because chicken cooked with Sichuan pepper are everywhere.

If you don’t want to eat chicken, you can make BBQ by yourself. There are many camp bases on Tieshanping, where you can take your own foods and rent barbecue tools.
