CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Grand Theater, Hongyadong, Qiansimen Bridge... Black and white woodcut shows Chongqing style, and have you ever seen such prints? Recently, the Woodcut Print Exhibition Tour was held in Shijingpo Sub-district Public Service Center, and more than 150 works attracted the attention of local citizens. Among them, a group of Printmaking Chongqing works brought by the Print Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute reproduce the image of Chongqing landmarks, making citizens feel a different Chongqing on the prints.

On that day, there were not only prints on display, but also printmaking experience. "This is the Grand Theatre, this is the Chaotianmen, and this is the Great Hall... I shall make one myself." At the exhibition, many children recognized Chongqing on the print at a glance. They were eager to have a try one after another with paper. The scattered stilted buildings make Hongyadong immediately recognizable, but it is extremely difficult to make such a work. The stilted buildings have windows, eaves and other details, which is a little challenging for woodcut printmaking. "In these details, one wrong cut can ruin the whole painting."

The teacher of Print Department of Sichuan Fine Art Institute introduced that about this group of works of Printmaking Chongqing, black was used to show the local tone, gray was to reflect the sense of hierarchy, white was for the bright part, and finally black, white and gray were used to interpret the tone of Chongqing. However, it is easy to say but hard to do since both teachers and students made great efforts. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
