The Chongqing Business Administration Dept. of the PBOC (hereinafter referred to as "the Dept.") has held a press conference to answer these questions about the circulation, difference and lack of 100 and 5-yuan banknotes related to the new version. Let’s have a look!

For the question about smooth circulation of the new version in Chongqing, the Dept. has carried out the relevant work such as upgrading cash machines and tools as well as training personnel in banking financial institutions of Chongqing, to ensure that these institutions have the ability to identify the true and false currency and the employees master anti-forgery features.
Meanwhile, the Dept. publicizes for the public so that people can know the appearance and anti-forgery features of the new version and the renminbi circulation order and the holders’ interests can be safeguarded well.

In terms of banknotes, compared with the 5th set of 50, 20 and 10-yuan banknotes in 2005 as well as the 5th set of 1-yuan banknotes in 1999, the new version has improvements in the brightness of the color and the structure and effect of the face. And all year is changed into "2019".
Specifically, it adjusts the decorative flower pattern on the front of the banknotes. On its left side, it adds something for the decorative pattern, adjusts horizontal numbers and offsets the symmetrical pattern; and on its right side, it adds something for the hollowed-out opening safety line with dynamic feature and vertical numbers, adjusts the portrait of Mao Zedong and the face denomination in the upper right corner. On the back of the banknotes, it adjusts the main scene, denomination and offset pattern. Among which, 1-yuan banknotes also add white watermark and fully hidden safety line with magnetic feature.
The denomination in the middle of the front face are adopted the light color and variability technology which makes the banknotes be in a brighter effect.
In addition, it cuts the local pattern of the lower right corner in the new version, the holographic opening safety line with magnetic feature and concave touching line in the 50, 20 and 10-yuan banknotes, the ink denomination with optical variability in the lower left corner of 50-yuan banknotes.
Compared with the 5th set of 1-yuan and 5-jiao in 1999 and 1-jiao coins in 2005, it adjusts the shape of the front denomination of the new version, and shrinks the flower pattern appropriately on the back.
It adjusts the diameter from 25mm to 22.25mm in 1-yuan coins and adds the invisible pattern within the contour line and dots at the edge on the front face number "1", while the dots at the edge are added at the edge of 1-jiao coins. The biggest differences are that the material is changed from the steel core via copper alloy plating to nickel plating, the color is from golden to nickel-white. The shape in the inner circumference of the front and back faces is adjusted from a circle to a polygon in 5-jiao coins.
The 5-yuan banknotes under construction
For the lack of 5-yuan banknotes in the new version, the person in charge of the Dept. said "While designing and issuing the 5th set of 50, 20, 10 and 1-yuan banknotes and 1-yuan, 5 and 1-jiao coins, the Bank also research the promotion methods for 5-yuan banknotes. The Bank has continuously intensified the R&D of new technologies for currency printing. In order to improve the anti-forgery ability and renminbi’s circulation service life, the Bank currently chooses 5-yuan banknotes with low denomination and small-sized circulation to carry out the application research of related new technologies.
