An exhibition about incense in Three Gorges Museum

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- From August 7th to October 8th, the “Incense - Ancient Chinese Litterateurs’ Elegant Censers Exhibition” will be held at Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum. It is the first time for the museum to hold an exhibition about incense culture.

Three first-class royal relics will be displayed in the museum for the first time. More than 100 pieces or sets of collections related to incense will be showed to the public to demonstrate the charm of ancient elegant life from three aspects, including spices, incense and burning containers.

Some exhibits

For spices, the raw materials of four famous incense in ancient China, as key exhibits and various exotic spices, such as benzoin and frankincense, which are often heard but rarely seen by the public, will be exhibited here.

For burning containers, those in the past generations related to various incense activities will be displayed. It is not only a plain display, but also a reflection of social life, technology and aesthetic art of ancient China. Besides most common seen censers, other incense burning containers like incense tube, incense ball and incense cases will be exhibited.

For incense, each solar term corresponds to a physical incense. You can appreciate the fragrance from the past via this exhibition.

In addition to the three aspects mentioned above, this exhibition will also add contents about the process of traditional incense making and burning, to bring the public a unique feeling and emotional reveries and present the elegant and spiritual life of ancient litterateurs.
