BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The sixth China national vocational skill competition for persons with disabilities will be held in late October in Jiaxing, eastern China's Zhejiang Province, according to the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) Tuesday.

About 950 disabled persons from across the country will compete in 26 different skills of five categories, which include information communication, fine arts, handicrafts, engineering and service, said Zhang Xinlong, director of the education and employment department of the CDPF.

The competition aims to showcase China's achievements in recent years in developing the cause of the disabled people, and encourage persons with disabilities to develop new skills needed by the market, according to Zhang.

Launched in 1989, the competition has been held every four years since 2003.

China now has around 35 million registered persons with disabilities, with 18 million available for employment in terms of age.
