CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the Premiere and Launch Conference of the documentary The City Wall is Falling Down was held at Emperor Cinemas in Shin Kong Place. It’s understood that the documentary will be broadcast on CCTV Documentary Channel (CCTV 9) at 20:05 and CQTV at 20:30 every night from September 2nd to September 6th, with Youku (a video platform) broadcasting exclusively. It consists of 5 episodes, including Chaotianmen, Open City Gate, Flowing River, Rudder and Longmenzhen (Chongqing dialect). Each episode lasts 50 minutes.

Xu Bei, the Chief Director of the documentary, introduced that the documentary takes all the previous events after Chongqing opened the port as the “window”, the urban space and functional changes as the “frame”, and the ups and downs of characteristic figures in the time line as the “content”, to look into the urban gene generative mechanism in history and answer the question “where do we come from?”.

Who opened Chongqing port first and who built the rails in Chongqing first? Thanks to the courage and resoluteness, Chongqing was made the glory of China during the Anti-Japanese War. Xu Bei and her team used 250 minutes of video to let more people know about the legends of Chongqing and reserve these disappearing scenes.

“We spared no efforts to collect rare Chongqing historical images from individuals and institutions (including archives and museums in the UK and the USA)”, Xu Bei said so. Chongqing opened its port in the 19th century, when the photography was just introduced into China. In order to present scenes at that time, Xu Bei and her team used modern technologies to recover these disappeared scenes collected by them, like city gates and walls at Chaotianmen. They also assembled local scholars and scholars from the UK and the USA to build up the most academic team to express overall and authoritative views. Written historical records were cited in this documentary, like newspaper, diary and memoirs. Special editing technology was used visually. (Translated by Mao Qiao, Fathom Language Limited)
