CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, many tourists posted on the Internet that beside the Yangtze River Cableway Station, there is a hidden but beautiful spot. They considered it a mural street full of Chongqing characteristics. Some tourists said that they would like to know who painted the “Leaping Fish”.

Actually, few Chongqing people know about the mural street, let alone the tourists. The reporter recently went there and unveiled the mystery.

Crossing the river by Changjiang Cableway from the Xinhua Road in Yuzhong District, you will arrive at Longmenhao Old Street in Nan’an District and Nanbin Road, which is known as the “Chongqing Bund”. This is one of the favorite routes for tourists from other places.

The mural street, as the tourists call it, is the Longmenhao Old Street at the exit of the south bank of the Changjiang Cableway Station.

Here, the covered bowl tea, bean paste rice and Chongqing spicy noodles shops are set up along the street. The residential building is built along the mountain, and some road sections are built on the slope.

The walls and street views here were still a bit sullen in the past, but have become colorful recently.

The reporter saw that old trees along the street are painted with cartoon images such as fine horse, giraffe and calabash boy. They are not deliberately decorated, but are creatively depicted according to the original shape of the old trees – on the pole in the front of the local police station is painted Mr. Black.

Looking down, the tourists will feel amused – on the rusted sewer manhole cover are outlined the interesting patterns of the Shancheng Beer cap, Wanzhou grilled fish and double cooked pork.

Looking up, the roller shutter doors of the street shops are also wearing new clothes – the group of suspended buildings with the characteristics of the mountain city is vivid and lifelike above.

The word “Longmenhao” is clearly presented on the archway in the front of the building.

In the aisle of the entrance and exit of the Changjiang Cableway, a simple stone ladder is set up as a temporary seat, which attracts tourists and local residents from time to time to take pictures with cameras here.

Longmenhao Old Street is composed of many murals. Looking up, it is a blue sky, as if the tourists were in a painting or passing a time tunnel.

The old houses on the murals are marked with artistic words. They are the precious imprints of the historical and cultural block of Longmenhao Old Street — Dongjiaqiao Missionary Residence, Teachers’ Temporary School Building of Wuchang Zhonghua University, Xiahao Wanger Tower Lane, Xiahao Old Street, and so on.

Some of the old houses and street views on the paintings are being repaired, and some are listed as historical relics. They carry a history that cannot be forgotten. In 1890, China and the United Kingdom signed the “Yantai Treaty Amendment”, and Chongqing was opened as a commercial port, where each country set up consulates and foreign firms and factories here.

The steps on the slope are like the ups and downs of the river, and the walls on both sides are decorated with green leaves and lotus flowers.

On the wall of the building afar is painted a dragon gate view of green hills and waters, and the moon curves over the mountain. Looking down upstairs, it is just a three-dimensional painting of the Leaping Fish.

When night falls, the curved moon drawn on the wall reveals the moonlight, which is dreamlike.

Make every corner with surprise

Some knowledgeable tourists have found that the street scene of Longmenhao Old Street in Nan’an District is similar to but different from the Huangjueping Graffiti Art Street in Jiulongpo District, which has been already popular on the Internet.

The reporter learned from the Nanbin Road Management Committee that these paintings were completed by teachers and students of the School of Public Art of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.

Wang Song, a teacher of the institute, said that the paintings here were carried out in two phases and have recently been fully presented to the public.

“Longmenhao Mural Street is defined by many netizens. The tourists may evaluate whether it is a graffiti street or a mural street according to their preferences.” Wang Song said that the teachers and students have made a lot of efforts, the students at school are responsible for designing, and graduated senior schoolmates are responsible for painting. After applying to the school, Wang Song moved the campus class to Longmenhao for on-site teaching.

It’s all about trials and breakthroughs.

Wang Song revealed that teachers and students have incorporated various techniques such as Chinese painting and 3D painting, using propylene imported England as pigment, which has a long hold time and a bright color.

“The reason why ‘Longmen Moon’ can shine at night is because behind the moon is installed advanced lighting devices for decoration.” Wang Song introduced that when the night falls, the light shines like moonlight, lighting up the steps, and the steps are like glistening river water, which not only reflects the aesthetic sense of the leaping fish, but also hints the best wish of the steadily high.
