CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching. In the old areas of Yuzhong, old Chongqing people will climb high and gaze far at Pipa Mountain Park. Recently, the upgrading project of Pipa Mountain Park has been completed.

Story about “returning gardens to the public”

Since 1949, villas and mansions in Chongqing, including Wang Lingji Mansion, were used for government departments offices. So a story about “returning gardens to the public” spread for a long time. This story is written on the stela in front of the Red Star Pavilion in Pipa Mountain Park.

In 1954, government departments were moved out and allocated funds to build Wang Lingji Mansion into Pipa Mountain Park. Offices of Wang Lingji Mansion were built into Chongqing Museum, the former Three Gorges Museum.

In the second year after the official opening of Pipa Mountain Park, a miniature landscape garden was built, which was the earliest one built in Chongqing parks at that time. There is still a miniature landscape garden regularly opened to the public in Pipa Mountain Park.

In 1957, Red Star Pavilion was built, becoming a symbol of old Chongqing construction. It used to be one of the best places for climbing, spending holidays and enjoying scenery.

Jiangnan garden style

Pipa Mountain Park is located in Yuzhong District. Starting from Tongyuan Gate, you can get to this historic city park along Xinglong Street or Zhongshan 2nd Road.

Ficus virens can be seen everywhere, which hold the surrounding stones tightly. Pavilions, towers, man-made mountains and flowing water in Fuyuan Garden form the typical Jiangnan garden style.

Through this upgrading project, some infrastructures were reconstructed and many plants were added. Although it is autumn, Chinese rose and some unknown flowers are still in full bloom.

A broader vision

In addition to Eling Peak, Pipa Mountain with an altitude of 345m is also a peak on Yuzhong Peninsula. Red Star Pavilion in Pipa Mountain Park is a commanding height in Chongqing districts.

Mr. Li, who lives nearby said that several decades ago, there was no high rises around Pipa Mountain. Wandering in Pipa Mountain Park and enjoying Chongqing night scenery at Red Star Pavilion became an amusement for foreign friends.

Similar to Nanshan Mountain Viewing Platform, you can see the Yangtze River, the People’s Great Hall of Chongqing and most areas of Chongqing.
